Let’s celebrate all!

There have been times when I felt that words are falling short. Or it was difficult to decipher what I wished to convey. And so here I am, yet again!

This time my head pondered over the various festivities and their religious connect. And how I, like a few others, have enjoyed and celebrated life through each one of them.

Being a native of India, a country full of diversity, I have seen, felt and actually been a part of so many festivals amidst varied people and culture.

There are these vibrant festivals of Diwali and Holi.
While Diwali takes you out on a cleanliness drive, Holi leads you to many color-filled rides. All of us out here know about these festivals. Even though, we may not be typically in the related religion but we do tend to lighten up..brighten up on these occasions.

Eid..! It is a beautiful day. You get to hear prayers which are soothing to your ears and brings about a very calm and peaceful environment. If I am around a Masjid, I am drawn towards the connect which the prayers try to build with the Almighty. And finally, a delicacy on the day is a must for me.. unavoidable! πŸ˜€

Lohri..! A day when I pray and eat, eat and eat! And since it’s around the new year time, it is an extended celebratory time..! πŸ™‚

And then, it’s Christmas! A feeling of a new festive season around the corner. A time when I wish to dress up in shades of red. And gorge on cakes and chocolates..! πŸ˜‰

And there are many many which can be talked about at great length. But I want to make a point here.

The world around is full of different cultures and hence religions and hence people. And to build in a peaceful one, the one with love as the adhesive force, we need to celebrate.

Celebrate in your own little way. Just pulling out few minutes from your day. And enjoying the festive feelings. Make them your own..! πŸ™‚

Talk about it somewhere, with someone for just few minutes. It is when people talk and celebrate what I celebrate, I connect more, I connect better. And I am sure it goes for all.

There is no point being an obstacle to festivities, to celebrations. There is none. There is no point telling our little ones around not to celebrate just because you are not following a related- religion. Teach them about many of themΒ  infact. Let them be welcoming. Let children be the seeds of love.

Let us not be so selfish..not atleast in the name of God!

Don’t be a roadblock on the path of happiness..the world around has no less pain.

Celebrate.

Merry Christmas Everyone!! πŸ™‚

P.S.: It is this conversation which made me write today’s words.
I asked this little 8 year old boy about his religion as it was asked for his school admission. He said, ” I don’t know.”
I asked,” Are you a Hindu?”
” I don’t like the name, what else?”
“Muslim?”
” Noo! They use words I don’t understand..!”
“Sikh?”
” I haven’t heard of it..!”
“Christian?”
” Christmas tree..Santa Claus..?”
“Yes..! Kind of..”
“But I celebrate Holi also…(named a few more)… you write all of them because I want to celebrate all!”

  1. I think of Juliet’s speech to Romeo: “What’s in a name? that which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet;” What does it really mater by what name we celebrate love and gratitude and our common humanity?
